autumn

I found myself running around in a t-shirt and jeans the other day and it all seemed normal until I realized that our current date lies in the middle of November. I am not in Minnesota anymore. Rather, I am in a place that sometimes gets hit by hurricanes but rarely gets hit by tornadoes (a shock to a Midwestern girl like me). Here are a few pictures from around town.

3 pictures

These are a few photos from my latest adventure. The landscapes were beautiful--every single one of them. Suggestion to all, if you have a smidgen of a chance to travel, do it! Look how pretty the world is!

It's really been THAT long since I last posted???

I've been out. I quit my job and moved out of my apartment a month early and jumped into a car that was driven all the way around the country. Currently, I am in North Carolina, with a plane ticket back to the Twin Cities in a couple of days. I'm sure I'll see a few of you while I'm back. Sadly, I do not have the means to post any of the art from this past month (yes, there actually was so me productivity!) but the artwork will be posted soon. As will the photos. In the meantime, enjoy this totally random poem that I wrote in a fit of boredom when I had a few days to myself in Montara Bay. It's not good...I've never said that I was a good poet, in fact, it may not even be a poem, but rather a list of things I saw that day. Whatever, it's all I have, so here it is:

Bad Poem
By Katie Chen

Rocks

That's all folks! See you soon!

My new love has two wheels

Though I have been trying to keep this blog pretty "professional" (me "professional,"--I know, that's pretty funny...) by posting mostly art-related stuff, I felt the urge to do something totally "bloggy" and write about the new item in my life.

Meet: my new bike.

She's beautiful and blue, and my favorite part is that she has yellow--yes yellow! accents on the brake wire thingies. She's smooth and best of all, she fits me perfectly. Whoa whoa whoa guys! I know what you're thinking. I'm pretty "into" this girl. And yes. I can assure you that this is totally NOT a platonic relationship that we have going on here. I mean look at her! Could you seriously tell me that you could be "just friends" with a gal that looks like that!?! I highly doubt it.

The hand in the creation of this beauty was not my own, though (I know next to nothing about bikes...), and instead good old Mount Sass is responsible for this glorious creature. Thank you!!!

Camera camera

I am by no means an expert photographer, but once in a while I like to get out the old digital camera and snap a few. Here are a few from visit to my parents' new property in Finlayson which is about 2 hours north of Minneapolis.

MORE!

Ok, so I managed to make a few more of these creepy patch kid things during the family viewing of Cool Runnings. It's a good flick if you didn't manage to watch it when you were a kid, I highly suggest it. "Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time!"

Anyway, if you really wanted one of these, I suppose I might sell one to you for a really reasonable price. I might even give you one if I really really like you.

Creepy Patch Kids

These were made out of the waste left after nylons were cut to fit the mannequins at work. Button eyes.

Basil Series

Ink, watercolor-pencil and watercolor on old graphing paper. It was a winter full of melancholy. The springtime is greatly welcomed. These are also Graham's plants. They died (all but one) shortly after I did this series.
